We are excited to invite you to our upcoming event, celebrating and supporting women in tech and those interested in joining tech. This gathering offers a chance to connect, share experiences, and foster a supportive community.

Mimmit koodaa and Amazon Web Services (AWS) is kicking off a brand new study path 2024 for students interested in AWS Cloud Technologies. Along with the study path, AWS also offers exposure to Amazon culture and opportunities for networking. The purpose of the technical study path is to open up new career opportunities and prospects for the industry. During 2024 those who wish are also offered the opportunity AWS certified after the webinar series. The certifications being offered during 2024 are AWS Cloud Practitioner and AWS Architect Associate.

Feel free to join, whether you are new to the field, changing roles or an experienced connoisseur or an enthusiastic networker!

10:10–10:50
AWS Purpose-Built Database Immersion Day Overview
This deck provides an overview into AWS Purpose Built Databases. We discuss reasons why modern application requirements necessitate a purpose-built database strategy. We also introduced different fully managed database services on AWS, purpose-built for relational, key-value, document, graph and more data models.

10:50–11:30
AWS Purpose-Built Database Immersion Day Reference Application Walkthrough
This presentation introduces the architecture, application components and access patterns for reference application used in Labs 1 – 3 of Purpose Built Database Immersion Day. The lab exercises aim to help Developers, DBAs and Data engineers get hands-on experience on how to migrate relational data to AWS Purpose-built databases such as Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Aurora using AWS DMS and build data processing applications on top of it.

11:30–12:10
Data Migration using AWS DMS
AWS DMS (Database Migration Service) helps you migrate databases to AWS quickly and securely. In this lab, you will be performing a migration of sample taxi application data from RDS Oracle to Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL databases. For this lab, we have created a typical relational schema with foreign key dependencies between tables. We have used sample trip data (green taxi-Jan 2016) from AWS Open dataset registry to populate trips table.

12:40–13:20
Data processing using Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Aurora
In this lab, you will simulate taxi trip booking by a rider and acceptance by a driver followed by billing and payment using Python scripts and SQL commands. You will utilize DynamoDB streams and AWS lambda functions to insert completed trip data from DynamoDB to Aurora PostgreSQL.

Query multiple data sources using Amazon Athena federated query
We will leverage Athena federated query feature to query data stored in Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and AWS S3 using a single SQL query. Athena executes federated queries using Data Source Connectors that run on AWS Lambda.

Language: English, you can also ask questions in Finnish as there will be local team present during the events.
Possible skill level: All skill levels are welcome. It’s beneficial if you know the basic concepts of AWS Cloud Services.
